2004 Program Excellence in Technology Education
A.L. Hagen Junior High School, Dickinson
A.L.Hagen Junior High School in Dickinson has been named the Outstanding Technology Education Program in North Dakota by the International Technology Education Association. The award was presented at the ITEA Annual Conference held March 18-20, 2004 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On hand to accept the award were the quality instructors in the program, Erwin VanVeldhuisen and Scott Hoffmann.
Mr. Van uses the modular approaching to teaching the Standards for Technological Literacy (STL). Students in his class can choose from such modules as:

Mr. Hoffman uses a more traditional teaching approach to teaching students Technology Education and addressing the STL. Units in his class include:

2004 Teacher Excellence Award
Ken Wieland - Wachter Middle School, Bismarck
Ken Wieland, Technology Education Teacher at Wachter Middle School in Bismarck, was named the 2004 Outstanding Technology Education Teacher in North Dakota. The award was presented to Ken at the ITEA Annual Conference held March 18-20, 2004 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In his Exploring Technology class at Wachter, Mr. Wieland exposes his students to the Standards for Technological Literacy (STL) with units in Communication, Transportation, Manufacturing and Construction. He uses a variety of hands-on-minds-on activities to give students a positive experience.
In his Manufacturing Technology class, Mr. Wieland addresses the STL through units in a modular classroom. This is the Ken's first year with a modular classroom. His students do activities in:

In all of the modules, students are exposed to new concepts and do a variety of activities.
Mr. Wieland has a unique rapport with his students. He is a an instructor who truly cares about his students and goes the “Extra Mile” to insure that he meets all the needs of all of his students. Mr. Wieland is very deserving of this award. Congratulations, Ken!
