Business Challenge

Dates: July 13-18, 2008 (9th-12th Students); July 13-16, 2008 (K-12 Educators)
Location: Dickinson State University
Housing: Dickinson State University residence halls
Cost: Cost $125 after sponosrship (Early Bird Special…Save $30…when you register by May 31, 2008)
Sponsorship: $400 / participant (see brochure for more information)
Grade: 9-12, including 2008 graduates and K-12 Educators

Business Challenge is a unique opportunity for students and educators to learn about, and experience first-hand, real-life applications of business and entrepreneurship ideas. Business leaders from across the state share their expertise and knowledge with students as they lead discussion groups, teach strategies, and facilitate business simulations. Students and educators actually form mock companies complete with a marketing plan and business activities. Business Challenge builds a bridge between business and education. This bridge is needed to help prepare our future workforce, create tomorrow’s leaders, and gain better knowledge of North Dakota’s economy and career opportunities.

Culinary Arts Academy

Dates: June 1-13, 2008
Location: Bismarck High School
Housing: Students must arrange their own housing
Cost: None
Grade: Preference will be given to students entering their junior or senior year in the fall of 2008
Application due date: April 25, 2008

A two week summer class for students who are considering becoming a chef. Meet other students who share your passion and improve your culinary skills while you get high school credit. The experience includes great opportunities for individual work in a lab environment, field trips, competitive projects and preparation of a final project for special guests!

Application requirements:
Applicants must submit a hand written paragraph describing any food-related Family and Consumer Science courses taken, food service-related work experience, cooking experience in the home, and any other information that would help instructors decide if the applicant will be selected to participate in the Culinary Arts Academy.

Electronics Telecommunications Academy

Dates: June 1-6, 2008
Location: Bismarck State College
Housing: Housing available in Werner Hall
Cost: $300 (Sponsorship may be available on a limited basis in some rural areas.)
Scholarships/Stipends: 3 - $1000 scholarships from BSC Foundation; A $125 stipend is available on a limited basis in most rural areas.
Grade/Age: High School Juniors/Seniors in 2008-09 school year; must be 16 years old by May 31, 2008
Application due date: April 11, 2008

High school students who attend the Electronics Telecommunications Academy will explore basic telecommunications skills and gain insight into telecommunications careers in the area. Classroom activities will focus on activities and tours designed to build insight into telecommunications skills and knowledge.

Welding Camp

Dates: Monday - Friday, July 14-18, 2008, 8am-12pm
Location: BSC Technical Center, Room 113C
Housing: None provided
Cost: $100/student, $20/student supply fee, $5 for welding gloves paid to the instructor the first day.
Grade: Geared for ages 14-18. Non-graded enrichment program.
Application due date: As soon as possible

This camp will be an introduction to oxygen acetylene welding, shielded metal arc (stick) and gas metal arc welding. We will also cover shop safety and have lots of time for hands-on activities.
