What happened to the Word format?

The NDCA has found that forms and documents downloaded into Microsoft Word do not always function well for users. The variables of operating systems, versions of Word, and the idiosyncrasies of individual computers and printers raise the probability of something not working correctly.

All forms and documents available through this site are now exclusively in the Portable Document Format (PDF), which should cause fewer problems for users. Among other advantages, PDF files are not restricted to a particular platform (Windows, Macintosh, etc.) and are less vulnerable to the pagination, layout, and other problems applicants have experienced with Word files. Most federal and state government agencies, including the National Endowment for the Arts, are using the PDF format exclusively now.

NDCA documents and grant application forms can be downloaded, viewed, filled out, and printed through Adobe's free Acrobat Reader. Click on the "Get Acrobat Reader" icon below to download a complimentary copy.
