Statewide Arts Conference and Governor's Awards for the Arts 2013

March 26-27
Radisson Hotel, Bismarck, ND

The Statewide Arts Conference will take place in Bismarck March 26-27, 2013, with the Governor’s Awards for the Arts ceremony to take place the evening of March 27. The North Dakota Governor’s Awards for the Arts program is presented by the Governor’s Office and the North Dakota Council on the Arts to recognize individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to the arts in the state. Nominations are reviewed by the North Dakota Council on the Arts, who then submits final candidates to the Governor for selection of the award winners.

At the 2013 Statewide Arts Conference we will discuss various grants available to communities and organizations through North Dakota Council on the Arts, Arts Midwest and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), in addition to various other opportunities. There will be time for attendees to have private consultations with representatives from the NEA and Arts Midwest throughout the conference, a panel discussion on grantwriting tips and issues, and several other sessions. Sessions will include an introduction to the rural arts project in Wahpeton, ND; a panel discussion by granting agencies (Arts Midwest, National Endowment for the Arts, and local arts councils); information on careers in the arts for individuals with disabilities; introductions to new NDCA staff members and NDCA programs; new ideas to market your programs; and more.

On Tuesday, March 26, from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. NDCA will host a pre-conference for arts organization staff, artists/individuals with disabilities, care providers, and more, focusing on Careers in the Arts for People with Disabilities. Wayne Pruse will present on The Business of Art; Kimberly Forness Wilson will talk about The Power of the Arts; Marty Campbell will discuss the Benefits and Rewards of Hiring Individuals with Disabilities; and there will be a Panel Discussion presented by Tony Weiler, Commissioner of Labor, North Dakota Department of Labor; Kari Shea, Region Administrator, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, State of North Dakota; and Josh Villbrandt, SEP/Vocational Manager, HIT, Inc. From 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. the Statewide conference opening reception will take place.
