"Past to Present: Decorative Swedish Art" by Pieper Bloomquist
Please join us at the Spirit Room in Gallery I for the exhibition of Pieper Bloomquist’s “Past to Present: Decorative Swedish Folk Art in the Modern Age” in celebration of the 2018 Scandinavian festival. Bloomquist’s work encapsulates a traditional method of storytelling in the modern age.
Bloomquist says, “Like the old painters before me, I tell stories. I bring to life memories from my childhood where I can depict my grandparents as they were, my siblings as small children, and my home as I envision it. My paintings often depict scenes that, while personal to me, portray universal human experiences and daily activities of growing up in the upper midwest. Placing scenes like these in the context of traditional Swedish flower and scroll formations connects them to my heritage and provides a kind of circle that makes it seem complete for me.”
