The Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra ends the subscription series of its 40th anniversary season with a concert that pays homage to that important figure for any creative artist, the muse. "O For a Muse of Fire" warms up the North Dakota spring with the musical talent of virtuoso pianist Gareth Cordery.
Cordery, a former member of the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Youth Orchestra, will bring his interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto to concertgoers. Listeners will also be warmed by a more contemporary piece by Dominick Argento, "Fire Variations." BMSO Music Director, Dr. Beverly Everett, invites attendees to reap the rewards of a thriving youth orchestra through performances by two artists: "Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto in b flat minor is one of the most famous and exciting in the orchestra repertoire. It is a delight to get to feature my young friend Gareth Cordery on this epic piece. I have known Gareth for over six years and have seen him grow into such an amazing young man and musician. We also feature Matthew Lorenz, our young artist winner. This is certainly a concert that suggests a bright future for classical music!" This final subscription concert of the year is yet another performance designed to fire up music lovers.
Concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Belle Mehus auditorium in downtown Bismarck. A pre-concert talk with Dr. Beverly Everett starts at 7:00 in the upstairs conductor’s room. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling (701) 258-8345, by visiting the BMSO office at 215 North 6th Street in Bismarck, or online at Bismarckmandansymphony.org.
