Sam.gov website to get UEI

Beginning April 4, 2022, the federal government is transitioning from the use of the Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS), generated by Dun & Bradstreet, to a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) through the SAM.gov system. The SAM UEI is required of state, regional, and local agencies and all their organizational subgrantees.

All organizations applying for funds from NDCA will be required to have a UEI through SAM (Federal System of Award Management) in alignment with requirements from the National Endowment for the Arts. Individuals applying to NDCA do not need a SAM UEI.

NDCA encourages all organizations who are planning to request future funding to apply for a SAM UEI.

Organizations can obtain a SAM UEI without having to complete a full entity registration. There is no charge to obtain the UEI. It is FREE to do.

  • To apply, visit SAM.gov.
  • Organizations will need their legal name, address, and DUNS number (dnb.com).
Beginning April 4, 2022, a DUNS number will no longer be required.

(The SAM.gov website will validate organizations without going through Dun & Bradstreet.)

See video with instructions for obtaining a SAM UEI.
