Featured Artist Works Displayed in the Offices of the Governor

April, May, June 2006 - Tam Goodman (Towner)

Photo of Tam goodmanFinding beauty everywhere she looks has been Tam’s discovery since she started painting 20 years ago. Tam is a partner in Backstage Gallery & Gift Shoppe in Rugby, ND, where she does all the framing for the gallery in her 100 year old home on her farm northwest of Towner. She enjoys the outdoors and her favorite pastime is to ride horseback with her grandchildren.

Tam is one of 13 women that takes their horses to the North Unit of the Badlands to ride and paint for four days each summer. With the help of the North Dakota Council on the Arts, Tam was fortunate to be able to study art in Italy in September. Tam and Glory Monson’s “September in Italy” show was exhibited at the Taube Museum in Minot.
The Minot Easter Seals Foundation selected Tam to paint one of their Catch a Painted Ponies, with her horse being one of the top horses auctioned off at the Gala. Bismarck Catch a Painted Ponies has also commissioned Tam to paint one of their ponies, and Fargo selected her to paint one of their buffalo’s.

Tam’s subject matter comes from her surroundings. She particularly enjoys painting old buildings found on nearby farmsteads, or an armful of flowers gathered in her garden, or wildflowers picked from the pasture. The love of North Dakota shines through her paintings - she believes there is beauty everywhere we look, we just have to ‘see’ it.
Tam has traveled extensively throughout the Midwest and the west coast to art shows and has won numerous awards with her artwork. You can find Tam’s work in Backstage Gallery & Gift Shoppe in Rugby, Red Cedar Framing in Bismarck, Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota, Fountain in Williston, ND, and Bird’s Nest in Great Falls, MT.
