Featured Artist Works Displayed in the Offices of the Governor

January, February, March 2005 - Deane Colin Fay (Gackle)

Deane Colin Fay is a native of North Dakota. Deane has established a close relationship with this region of the country. He is an avid sportsman and outdoorsman and attributes his kinship with the land as the primary inspiration for his work. At home with all art forms, Fay has developed a style and an imagery that is reminiscent of global tribal traditions yet has its own unique flavor and characteristics.

“My intent has been to develop a vocabulary of images and forms that stimulate a universal aesthetic consciousness that considers the evolution of Man's fight for survival, his need to belong, and his compulsion for individual expression. Whether it be coping with the environment, connecting with ghosts from the past, or battling the inner demons that all of us as human beings experience, it is my hope that through my work the viewer is able to contemplate our common bonds.”

Deane and his wife Sally Jeppson reside in Gackle, North Dakota, where Deane has his studio/shop. Deane and Sally are the owners/operators of Starview Enterprises Incorporated, an exhibit design and museum consulting business. Currently they are working as the exhibit design team for the North Dakota Cowboy Hall Of Fame in
Medora, ND.

Fay received a BS in art from Minnesota State University, Moorhead and an MFA in painting from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, and a minor at the Wendell Castle American School for Craftsman. Deane also received a scholarship award to the Banff Centre, School of Fine Arts in Canada. Fay has had many solo and group exhibitions throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, New York, and Canada.
