July, August and September 2008 - Barbara Nechiporenko (Bismarck)

Photo of Barb NBarbara Nechiporenko was raised and attended school in Fessenden, ND. She graduated from the UND in 1971 and came to Bismarck to teach elementary school. After working in several different positions in education, she decided to change careers and obtained a two-year degree in Commercial Art from Bismarck State College. Barb worked as a graphic artist for the Bismarck Tribune and the ND REC Magazine (now called North Dakota Living). The last 14 years of her work career were spent designing publications at the N D State Department of Health.

Barb has studied drawing and design through night classes at BSC and has studied with several local instructors. Most recently Vern Skaug has been her instructor in pastel and oil. She has taken pastel workshops with Mary Ann Cherry, Sheila Rieman and Jean Ranstrom. She has taught basic drawing for adults through BSC, THEO art school and Bismarck Art and Galleries. Barb has worked part-time for BAGA and is currently serving on the Board of Directors. She now works out of her home studio north of Bismarck where she lives with her husband, Ken.

She has been showing her work locally and regionally for ten years. Her work has been accepted in the juried Missouri River Show and in 2002 won first place. One of her pieces was selected for the First Annual Cowboy Hall of Fame Art Auction in Medora. Barb paints a variety of subjects but especially enjoys landscapes featuring the North Dakota prairies.
