Featured Artist for April, May and June 2008 The works of artist Marsha Lehmann will be on display in the Capitol offices of Governor John Hoeven and First Lady Mikey Hoeven, and the Attorney General's offices for the months of April, May and June. Marsha Lehmann (Bowman) Southwestern North Dakota artist Marsha Njos Lehmann now works in oil with a few images in pencil. Her paintings are primarily of ranch life, wildlife and the rugged terrain of the badlands and prairies where she and her husband, Rob, raise Angus cattle. Marsha's cameras show years of wear from packing them with her everywhere. Marsha has documented some changes in the rural lifestyle where she grew up and strives to capture the beauty of her favorite place on earth, the rugged sagebrush covered, blue green pastures and badlands. The subjects in her paintings are from photos she has taken - of ranch life, working dogs with sheep and cattle, horses working and grazing on the prairie, the beauty of the livestock and wildlife together, the life of ranching and farming families, men, women and children in their everyday working clothes at the county fair, rodeos, working, and just everyday life. Many of her paintings capture a moment in time... a boot on the bumper of an old pickup "Discussing the Weather," a painting filled with images of bucking horses at the oldest rodeo in North Dakota at Killdeer "The Spirit of the Mountain." Marsha recently received word that Greenwich Workshop of Greenwich, Connecticut will be publishing one of her oil paintings.
Artists looking to represent their region with art work placed in the offices of the governor and first lady can submit a brief resume along with photographs or slides of their artwork to the North Dakota Council on the Arts office (1600 East Century Avenue, Suite 6, Bismarck, ND 58503). Artists will be selected for quarterly display. (The next quarter begins in July 2008.) Artists must have approximately 10-12 pieces available (20 x 24 or larger). |
