Statewide News Summer Theatre Provides Entertainment Throughout the Season From Broadway-style productions to historical one-act adaptations to comedies, North Dakota summer theatres offer something for everyone's tastes. You can also view additional North Dakota upcoming events at www.ndtourism.com/events. ~ Sara Otte Coleman, Director, Tourism Division North Dakota Department of Commerce Plains Art Museum Graphic Designer Serves As Judge in Museum Association Competition Cody Jacobson, graphic designer at the Plains Art Museum, has been selected as a judge for the annual Mountain Plains Museum Association (MPMA) design competition. Jacobson and two other judges will rank books, exhibition catalogs, brochures and promotional packages submitted by Museum designers. Awards will be presented on August 1 in Taos, NM. more on Cody Jacobson... Juried Fine Art Exhibition Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center’s Juried Fine Art Exhibition will be on display July 3 through September 29, 2006, featuring new and established local artists. A public reception will take place on July 7, 2006, from 3:30 to 5:00p.m. The winners will be announced by Juror Ed Pauley, President/CEO of the Plains Art Museum. Refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public. Support of this project is provided by the Cities of Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo through the Lake Agassiz Arts Council. more on Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center… Call to Artists - Marketplace of Ideas/Marketplace for Kids, Inc. Request for Proposals - Marketplace of Ideas/Marketplace for Kids, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization, managed by a Board of Directors. Each year, as part of Marketplace for Entrepreneurs, our Organizing Sponsors U.S. Senator Kent Conrad and Commissioner of Agriculture Roger Johnson recognize our financial partners during a reception the evening before Marketplace. This year’s reception will be held on January 16, 2007. Interested North Dakota Artists can submit their ideas for the Family of Awards to be presented. There are (5) five categories of awards. National News National Directory of American Indian Artists Launches Online Resource; Artists Encouraged to Apply The Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB), an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior, announces the development of a key online listing. Updating its "Source Directory of American Indian and Alaska Native Owned and Operated Arts and Crafts Businesses," the information is now available online at www.iacb.doi.gov. Organized by state, the "Source Directory" includes federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native artists and craftspeople, cooperatives, tribal arts and crafts enterprises, and privately-owned and operated businesses. The "Source Directory" is accessible to the public, serving as a direct link between the arts and prospective customers. The "Source Directory" will be updated monthly as new applications for business listings are received and approved. This service is available only to individuals who are enrolled members of federally recognized Indian Tribes or Alaska Native groups. To be listed is free. Application specifics can also be reviewed by visiting the following section of the IACB website: www.iacb.doi.gov/order/source_how_to.html LEAD Awards for Excellence in Accessibility Leadership One of the 2006 "LEAD Awards for Excellence in Accessibility Leadership" will be awarded to Paula Terry on behalf of the National Endowment for the Arts for outstanding efforts to encourage the national arts community to be accessible to people with disabilities and Theatre Development Fund’s Theatre Access Project for sustained efforts to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in theater audiences in both the for-profit and non-profit theater communities. The 2006 awards will be presented during LEAD’s sixth annual conference at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on August 5, 2006. more on LEAD Awards… Art21’s 2006 Outreach Initiatives: A Call to Participate! Love contemporary art? Curious about it? Looking to expand your organization’s audience by partnering with other groups? Seeking inspiration for dynamic public programming ideas? Art21, a nonprofit contemporary art organization, has designed two focused outreach initiatives that address all of these questions. "Museum + Library Partnerships" and "Youth Engagement" are our new screening and discussion-based national pilot programs. Using the Emmy-nominated, PBS documentary series, Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century as a springboard, both initiatives involve hosting screening events, discussion forums, and hands-on activities in local communities. "Museum + Library Partnerships" encourages collaboration between local cultural institutions to explore contemporary art from interdisciplinary perspectives. "Youth Engagement" is an opportunity to introduce students, educators, and their communities to contemporary art through youth-led, Art:21-inspired programming. The two initiatives are great ways to learn about contemporary art and gain access to a wide array of media resources, as well as to offer your community an opportunity to come together and take part in a wider cultural dialogue. Other Resources Tools for Nonprofit Organizations Idealist.org has compiled a list of the most useful sites they have found on the Web for individuals starting, managing and funding a nonprofit organization. Web Site Offers Guidance for Online Donations If you are in the market for online credit card software products, Idealware can help you choose wisely. This new site is dedicated to helping nonprofits with technology products and has reviewed 27 lower-priced online software tools for accepting donations from a web site. www.idealware.org/donations "Tools for Results" Tool-Kit - a Resource for Non-profit Arts and Cultural Organizations The Texas Commission on the Arts "Tools for Results" Tool-kit was developed as a resource for non-profit arts and cultural organizations in Texas and beyond. The Tool-kit is a collaborative project made possible with the help of many organizations that generously agreed to share their resources. The Tool-kit covers six topic areas: Fundraising & Development, Programs & Exhibitions, Cultural Tourism, Marketing, Advocacy, and Nonprofit Basics. Each section covers the basics, relevant concepts, best practices, things to consider, ideas for implementing change, common mistakes, ways to get started, do’s and don’ts, and how-to’s on a variety of topics. The “tools” are the sample forms, letters, documents, checklists, templates, and other resources. The intention is for nonprofits to take these “tools” and adapt them for their own purposes. Online Classifieds Opportunities & Services for Artists The New York Foundation for the Arts' Online Classifieds Opportunities & Services for Artists, is a free national online sources for artist opportunities and services. These include calls for entry, services such as photography of art work and accounting, space for rent, and many others. New listings are posted daily (designated with an orange "new" icon for one week) and remain on the site until they expire. Organizations posting listings are solely responsible for the content of those listings.
