Local Composer Featured in Film Troy Sterling Nies, a composer originally from Mandan, but who currently resides in Killdeer, N.D., was one of several composers selected to compose an original film score for a film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu”. The film premiered in October 2005, at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR during the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival. Troy attended this film festival and at the premiere, the film won 2 Brown Jenkin Awards: Audience Award - Best of Show, and Jury Award - Best Short Film. (www.hplfilmfestival.com). They’ve had very good response to this movie at various festivals, and recently were selected for the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. (www.slamdance.com). There were over 700 entries for their division, and their movie was one of only 11 selected. The date for the festival is January 19-27, 2006. Troy attended this festival as well, it was a great opportunity for him to meet representatives and scouts from the larger film companies such as Miramax, Paramount, Lion’s Gate, etc. The most recent movie out of Slamdance that was purchased for box-office and distribution was “Napolean Dynamite”.
