Sandy Spieler, the McKnight Foundation’s Distinguished Artist for 2014, will appear at a free public event at Theatre B on March 24 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., opening with a reception at 4:30 p.m. and an artist talk at 5:00 p.m., followed by group discussion. Her program, “Performance, Parades, and Pageantry as Public Art: Sandy Spieler’s Water Works,” will illustrate the ways in which simple visual art (puppets, masks, costumes, props); street performance, installations, music, and dance can combine to create public art that resonates with all ages.
On Thursday, April 2, the North Dakota Museum of Art, Grand Forks, ND, in collaboration with the Ellendale Area Arts Council and Ellendale O.P.E.R.A, Inc., will open the exhibition Fractured: North Dakota’s Oil Boom at the Ellendale O.P.E.R.A. House in Ellendale, ND. The exhibition will be on display until April 30. Exhibition hours: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 – 4 pm, or by appointment. Mixed Media Painting Workshop with Walter Piehl - A mixed media painting workshop taught by iconic western artist, Walter Piehl, will be held in Ellendale on March 21st from 9 AM-4:00PM at the Opera House. The Ellendale Area Arts Council will charge $30 per person non-refundable fee. Participants will need to pay in advance and need to bring their own materials. A materials list can be emailed. Please request a list from firstname.lastname@example.org. This should be a stellar class and we welcome anyone who would like to learn from Walter.
