Grand Forks Events:

Oct 16-18 - Doubt: A Parable, at the Empire Arts Center, 7:30pm. Winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award. Set in 1964 against the backdrop of an America in the midst of change, a progressive young Priest's conduct comes under question by Sister Aloysius Beauvier, a veteran nun twice his age. As questions begin to plague her, Sister Aloysius finds herself consumed by doubt in an ancient institution that once provided the comforts of community, certainty, and faith. For more information visit www.empireartscenter.com/empire-theatre-company.html

Oct 17 - Paulo Padilha and Group, Public Concert. The Ember, downtown Grand Forks, 7pm. $5 Admission. Catch the swing and rhythm of urban Brazil with Paulo Padilha and Group. Highly acclaimed as a musician and clever lyricist with a mischievous sense of humor, Paulo Padilha's songs take interest in everything from mother-in-law as muse to philosophic ramblings on art. A little samba, a little pop-you'll dance all the way home! There will also be a workshop at The Ember on Oct 16, 7pm. This workshop is free to the public! For more information call NoVAC at 772-3710

Oct 18 - October Art & Wine Walk. The last Art & Wine Walk is here. Stroll through downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks, while viewing artwork by local artists at galleries, restaurants, and other businesses, and enjoy samples of wine or other refreshments. Most artwork is available for sale, and artists are on-hand to discuss their work. For more information call NoVAC at 772-3710 or visit http://www.novac.org/art--wine-walk.html

Oct 25 & Nov 22 - Family Day is a day where children of all ages and adults come together to work on projects that help us understand the Museum exhibit or learn about techniques and materials. It takes place on the last Saturday of the month during the school year, from 10 am to noon, unless otherwise noted. Drop in or stay the entire time. There is no admission, although donations to cover materials are always welcome. Free Parking is available, compliments of the North Dakota Museum of Art. Visit http://ndmoa.com for more information

Nov 1 - Autumn Art Auction. The Museum inaugurated the Auction in order to develop a buyer's market for artists living in North Dakota and the surrounding region. Importantly, although a benefit for the Museum, the artists benefit first. They set their minimum prices, which must be reached before the Museum receives anything. Since the beginning in 1999, a diverse audience of people who want to live with original art has come into being. Established collectors as well as young buyers just beginning to collect have expanded the market. A gala party, the Autumn Art Auction is an annual live auction celebrating artists from the region and those from elsewhere with ties to the Museum. Wine and hors d'oeuvres are served at 6:30 pm. Live auction begins at 8pm. All works to be auctioned are displayed for several days prior to the event. Preview: Oct 23-Nov 1; Walk-about: Oct 30, 7pm. $40 Museum Members, $50 Non-members, call 777-4195 to order tickets. North Dakota Museum of Art

Nov 16-17 - Myra Presents: Sunday Concerts in the Galleries: Narek Arutyunian. Nov 16, 2pm, North Dakota Museum of Art; Nov 17, 7:30pm, Mayville State University. Tickets for the Concert Series are available by subscription, or available for single concerts at the door or in advance at the Museum. Parking compliments of the Museum for this event. For more information visit www.ndmoa.com/20142015-concerts-in-the-galleries

Jan 31 - The North Dakota Museum of Art Benefit Dinner and Silent Art Auction is both the prominent social event and successful fundraiser for the Museum, held in the elegant galleries of the Museum. A silent art auction celebrating artists from the region highlights the evening. All works to be auctioned are displayed for several days prior to the event

First Thursday of every month - NoVAC is offering Brown Bag Artist Lunches. NoVAC members attend for free, the cost for non-members is $5. Space is limited. The Brown Bag Lunches will be held at the NoVAC office: 124 N. 3rd Street. To RSVP: call 772-3710, or e-mail mariestrinden@novac.org
