Enjoy Showcase
2005 featuring a variety of artists from the North Dakota Council on
the Artist-in-Residence program. Showcases are highly entertaining
and present a snippet of what the artists can do to provide a rich
arts education experience for students and teachers. The Visual
Arts Showcase will take place on Sunday evening, February 20, at an
evening reception at the Bismarck Art and Galleries Association.
The Performing Arts Showcase will take place throughout the day on
Monday, February 21, at the Ramkota Hotel.
Attend the
exciting Lewis and Clark in the Classroom workshop on Monday,
February 21, at the Ramkota Hotel. Our presenter Alicia Broxmeyer,
a Bismarck artist and
educator, will feature animals that Lewis and Clark encountered
during the Corps of Discovery Expedition and the ways they
documented their existence. Learn basic drawing techniques and
discover curriculum connections in art, science, social studies, and
language arts; with standards and benchmarks included for art. Take
part in demonstrations and hands-on activities you can share with
students to engage them in exciting classroom learning experiences.
In addition, you can participate in a unique Lewis and Clark chalk
talk entitled, Lewis and Clark: Drawn to North Dakota, presented by
Lake Agassiz Arts Council board member, Steve Stark.
End the day on Monday, February 21, at the North
Dakota Heritage Center for an evening reception and enjoy meeting
with artists from Showcase 2005. You will also be able to view an

Kennedy Center Creative Ticket Schools of Excellence Awards The North Dakota Arts Alliance/Alliance for Arts Education (NoDAA) announced the state’s recipients of the Creative Ticket Schools of Excellence Award for the 2003-2004 school year. The recipients are Edison Elementary School in Minot, Bob Callies Elementary School in Garrison, Griggs County Central School in Cooperstown, and Nativity Elementary School in Fargo. The awards are presented to representatives of these schools by Yvonn Quijano, NoDAA’s Executive Director, during the keynote luncheon at the conference. To be eligible to receive this award, each school was required to meet a minimum of two of the following requirements:
Both Edison Elementary and Bob Callies Elementary were awarded for their continued commitment to working towards arts integration in their schools. They have continued to recognize the importance of providing arts education for not only their students, but also for their faculty and staff. Many representatives from both schools have attended the summer Arts-in-Education Teacher/Artist Institutes sponsored by NoDAA and the North Dakota Council on the Arts (NDCA). Both have applied for and received Teacher Incentive and Artist in Residence grants from the NDCA, which have been key to integrating the arts into their curriculum. Griggs County Central School was recognized for their continued partnership with the Griggs County Council on the Arts, with whom they have worked to enhance the arts and culture to both their students and community. This has been most evident in their strong commitment, during each school year, to bring in top quality programs and performers through the NDCA’s Artist in Residence program. “If it wasn't for the hard work of the Griggs County [Council on the Arts],” says Superintendent Wade Faul, “then our students would not receive a solid education." Nativity Elementary was awarded for their arts programs, which include opportunities for students and parents alike. The involvement of parents is the direct result of a committed Parent-Teacher Association that works to fund many hands-on creative art activities, field trips, and more. These opportunities have linked students to the community and provided them with connections that build value and respect for the arts by offering diverse experiences beyond the classroom. The Creative Ticket Schools of Excellence Award program is an initiative of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Networks (KCAAEN), a coalition of 44 statewide, non-profit organizations that work with the Kennedy Center to ensure that the arts are in integral part of American education. As part of this award, these four statewide recipients will be submitted to the Kennedy Center for consideration for the Creative Ticket National School of Distinction Award. |
