WOODSTOCK A-I-R
WOODSTOCK A-I-R is a workspace residency program designed to support artists of color working in the photographic arts who reside in the United States with access to time, facilities, financial, critical, and technical support. This activity is created with an emphasis on supporting artists working in the photographic arts who are at the brink of their careers and promising talent. All of us lead very busy lives – the drive for this program is to free the artist - from the busy routines and demands of everyday – and to provide a sanctuary for creativity. WOODSTOCK A-I-R encourages participants to pursue creative risk-taking in an environment rich in cultural resources. Working without distraction or interruption, participants focus intensely on their own work, continuing works in progress, setting goals for the future, and breaking new ground. In 2012 CPW will offer 7 residencies for artists of color and 1 "critical studies residency" for a curator/critic of color. Residents receive 24/7 access to CPW’s workspace facilities (including black-&-white darkroom, digital imaging stations, and library), critical and technical support, stipend for food and travel, and honoraria. In addition, CPW extends participants opportunities in exhibition and publication to residents. Each resident is provided accommodations at a historic artist residence located .5 miles from CPW and the center of Woodstock's business district. With quiet and solitude, yet, enlivened with a community of fellow artists, WOODSTOCK A-I-R participants work in an idyllic environment - a gathering place renowned for its vibrant cultural history. Artist in Residence Program at Acadia
The Artist-In-Residence Program offers professional writers, composers, and all visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form while surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the park. In the spring and fall, the park provides housing to participants for two-week to four-week periods. No additional stipend is available. In return, participating artists are asked to donate to the park collection a piece of work representative of their style and their stay. These creative works will be displayed on a rotating schedule or shared with the public through other appropriate means during the upcoming seasons. Artists are also asked to participate in one public program per week of their residency such as demonstrations, talks, exploratory hikes, or performances. In the fall, artists work with fourth--eighth grade students. Programs can be tailored to your medium, interests, and experiences, and only consume a few hours of your stay. HOW TO APPLY: Applications for the program are accepted beginning November and must be received by January 5 for consideration for the following season. Notification will be made by April. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee for applying to the residency. Make checks payable to the National Park Service. Residencies for Artists, Writers, and Cultural Producers
Elsewhere, an arts production site and experimental museum in downtown Greensboro, NC, is seeking artists, writers, and cultural producers for residencies during its Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. Set within a former thrift store housing a 58-year collection of American surplus, thrift, and antiques, Elsewhere invites experimental creators to utilize the immense collection of objects to pursue site-specific material, conceptual, and/or technologically-based projects. Elsewhere's building—two storefronts on the ground floor, a 14-room boarding house on the second, and warehouse on the third—provides dynamic architectures for the creation and installation of works. Artists live and work within transforming installations; these interactive environments become platforms for re-conceptualizing the theory and practice of art-making as an ongoing process of exchange in community. Experimenting with museum-as-medium within a store where nothing is for sale, Elsewhere offers an unparalleled framework for art practices, processes, and productions outside the traditional gallery, museum, and residency systems. The complete call for artists, residency brochure (PDF), and application deadlines are available at www.elsewhereelsewhere.org/residencies.html. Email George Scheer, Collaborative Director, at residencies@elsewhereelsewhere.org for an application.
