Raised on a farm near Pocahontas, Illinois, Patrick Luber first became aware of his interest in art as a young boy of five. Even at that age, he understood that art could be an occupation and that he wanted to pursue it. To this end, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois. Additionally, he received Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in sculpture from the University of New Mexico and has taught sculpture at the University of North Dakota since 1990.

Basing his work on what he calls the “American experience,” Luber tries to examine the conflict between private and public behavior. This is perhaps most evident in his sculptures that incorporate religious symbols. Something private – religion – is displayed within something very public – art. His other work often incorporates forms of furniture, books, and other common items to illustrate other aspects of American life, such as education and consumerism.

Luber's work is included in the permanent collection of the North Dakota Museum of Art as well as numerous private collections. It has been exhibited locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. He has had over 20 solo exhibitions; his work has been included in numerous group shows; and he was featured with seven other North Dakota artists in the 2003-2005 North Dakota Blue Book.
