World War I Centennial Commission: call for design entries
Alone among the four great wars of the 20th century - the "American century" - there is no national memorial to World War I in our nation's capital. In December 2014, one hundred years after the start of the war, the U.S. Congress passed legislation to redress this omission, authorizing the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission to establish a new memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue, one block from the White House and with a commanding view of the Capitol. The Commission has issued a call for entries, with Stage I of the competition due on July 21. The competition manual is posted at the Commission’s website www.worldwar1centennial.org.

The Role of Place in Audience Development. In effort to promote cultural opportunities for all people, The James Irvine Foundation commissioned research on the role of place in facilitating arts engagement. The resulting report, Why "Where"? Because "Who": Arts Venues, Spaces and Tradition, considers the dynamics between arts programming, spaces to experience it and audience development. It argues that opportunities for creativity should be located in accessible places, even if they are unconventional arts spaces. The report includes 10 case studies as well as a set of recommendations and a framework for applying them in practice.

'Caring Hearts Wall' reflects Larimore strength, by Brett Williamson of the Bismarck Tribune. In remembrance of January's bus and train accident outside of Larimore that took two lives and left a dozen injured, the Larimore School District dedicated the "Caring Hearts Wall" at Larimore High School on May 20, 2015. David Paukert, a visiting North Dakota Council on the Arts’ artist-in-residence, led the all-school program to explore how art could be used as a healing tool for the community and school of Larimore. http://bismarcktribune.com/news/state-and-regional/caring-hearts-wall-reflects-larimore-strength/article_bbb124fa-5314-57fa-b23c-f8084168e44d.html
